Let’s Embrace the dreaded B-word…
Let’s embrace the dreaded B-word... our son would say broccoli 🥦 but when it comes to building, it is budget!
~
Below are some budget considerations during a design and plan stage, we have found helpful, from our own experience.
~
💸 Custom built homes are becoming larger and have grown in size by over 230sqm in floor area. Remember that a larger dwelling with extra bedrooms, ensuites or an extra space requires more equipment, material and workers... oh and more cleaning 😭 Some will say that tiny homes are a fad, but the trend is still going strong. If you do decide to design a smaller rectangular or square home, you can always add colours, textures and features, making the design so much more, but at a lower cost.

💸 Same with your roof, more complexity equals more cost. Avoid unnecessary ridges and valleys to keep to budget. The traditional gable and contemporary flat roofs are some cost cutting options.

💸 Where you position your wet areas makes a difference too. Try to place heavy plumbing areas, like the kitchen, laundry and bathrooms in close proximity to each other, which will prevent using more pipes along with paying for more labour.

💸 Think of 3 areas where you want to splurge, that supports your dream or lifestyle. When we built, the kitchen space, huge outdoor deck and three metre high ceilings in our open plan, were our splurges. Our bedrooms, wet areas and other parts were more basically designed to balance costs. Your splurges could be a large luxurious ensuite, storage or huge windows and doors.

💸 Open plan designs are not only a modern design aspect but they keep your costs down, as there are less walls and features. This in turn, cuts back on plasterboard, paint, etc for the walls. 🏘 @ccbuild55 #ccbuild55
