The creation of a new home starts from the… floor up!

When we first started thinking about our new home the flooring was the first decision we made, as we knew that it would set the feel of our new home. We wanted to do polished concrete as we fell in love with the modern look with its sophisticated and luxurious vibe it created. We wanted a cream matte concrete look without the aggregate being exposed through grinding. The cream look is one of the simplest forms of concrete flooring and it was a cheaper option for us at ’The House that Dad Built’ as our aim was to stay under budget. This type of polished concrete flooring was appealing to us because it had a very organic look about it. A friend of ours enhanced the look of their cream concrete flooring further, by staining the concrete.

When it comes to the classics, hardwood timber flooring is unquestionably what comes to mind first. It has never lost its popularity because it is just as durable as it is beautiful. We have clients at the moment looking at the Hardwood timber flooring option, which is where solid pieces of wood are laid directly over joists. One major benefit of natural timber flooring is it will never go out of style and it will raise the value of your home significantly. Our clients are sustainably minded and due to Blackbutt hardwood being able to grow quickly and regenerate easily, it is a perfect sustainable option for their coastal build.

TIP: Enter your pre-start meeting knowing exactly what you want and you will save a lot of time, money and stress when working with a builder. The more information the building company has about the floor the more seamless the process will be. Choosing your floor first will also enable you to clearly communicate expectations for floor levels and cleanliness early on in the building process.
